Our dad Tony has been working on a model airplane project since January 2013. It is a Honda business jet. The noteworthy thing about this plane is that the engine pods come up from the wing rather than the more conventional way of mounting the engines to the sides of the fuselage. No plans or kit is available for this airplane and he built it from photos and the attached sketch, which we enlarged on our KIP copier. The finished wingspan is 118” and it weighs about 50 lbs. The engines are twin turbine jet engines with a combined thrust of 42 lbs. The first flight yesterday was to prove airworthiness before final completion and painting. Brother Anthony is an accomplished model aviator and as you can see by the youtube video the flight was a success! There is an issue with the retractable landing gear which was sized for a much lighter plane, so dad will spent the next few months rebuilding the landing gear and wings. The plane carries 1 gallon of jet fuel which will give it about a 6 minute flight time.
It was a great Father’s Day!
